Peter Grandbois
BEND AND TOUCH THE GRASS
Though the house is quiet
another day nearly
………….snuffed out
Shadows slipping through
a bear’s skull,
………….half-buried
Deer prints breaking
the blossoming mud
………….at the water’s edge
The cricket’s chirp
limping through
………….the undecided night
You still understand
nothing
………….of silence
Time thickens
to an inky paste
………….deep in the hollow
of your hands
The moon a blind eye
opening
………….inside you
A leaf falls
becomes the wind
………….before it rests
becomes a stray
dog
a prophet sucking
the tit
………….of sky
The house lives
inside you
………….not you
inside the house
